We see signs for shift from automated biology to digital biology. And more prototypes, products and companies develop:
Sci-Bots
Our friends Ryan and Christian Fobel from Wheeler Labs Toronto, together with Aaron Wheeler himself started the company Sci-Bots. The DropBot platform provides the ultimate in flexibility and is used by researchers around the world. http://www.sci-bots.com/
Auryn
The team around Ruediger Trojok wants to make biotechnology more accessible to everyone and turn the hacker-style geeky OpenDrop to an industry standard device. The new company Auryn.bio is located in Berlin and part of the international hackteria network.
Digi.bio
They love science and proudly present the DB1 wireless high-voltage switching board. The future is comming fast with digi.bio in Amsterdam. http://digi.bio/
Oxford Nanopore
Known for a a small hole to sequence DNA the company recently moved into digital biology with their VolTRAX device. And the VolTRAX is small and USB powered too. Some people are joking that Nanopore is offering prep of Illumina libraries on the VolTRAX as customers are unhappy with the the Neoprep. https://nanoporetech.com/products/voltrax
