A quick prototype using a micro servo motor and two neodymium magnets (diameter 4 mm 2 mm) show how to move and separate magnetic beads from liquids using digital microfludics on OpenDrop. A 3D printed holder is mounted under the cartridge and the magnetic effect is activated by moving the magnets up to the backside of the cartridge.
First tests with a wash step sequence show that a blue ink can be moved over the beads and separate without leaving any color behind.
Update: OpenDrop V4 with magnetic bead separation magnets is now available as on option in the gaudishop.
